`` The `ecumenical movement’ means those activities and enterprises which according to various needs of the Church and opportune occasions, are stated and organized for the fostering of unity among Christians . These are first, every effort to eliminate words. Judgments and actions which do not respond to the conditions of separated brethren with truth and fairness, and which make mutual relations between them more difficult; then, `dialogue’ between competent experts from different Churches and Communities, In their meetings, which are organized in a religious spirit, each explains the teaching of his communion in greater depth and brings out clearly distinctive features. Through such dialogue, everyone gains a truer knowledge and more just appreciation of the teaching and religious life of each Communion. In addition, these Communions cooperate more closely in whatever projects a Christian conscience demands for the common good. They also come together for the common prayer where this is permitted. Finally, all are led to examine their own faithfulness to Christ’s will for the Church and whenever necessary, undertake with vigor the task renewal and reform…..’’ (Vat II, Decree on Ecumenism, Unitatis Redenteg ratio, No. 4)
That all may be one
